Baseball Coaching Staff

Mark_Purvis

Head Coach: Mark Purvis

Coach Purvis is in his second stint as head coach of Mt. Juliet High School. He was rehired in July of 2014 after a two year hiatus. Coach Purvis’s first tenure as head coach at MJHS was from 2000-2012. His combined record as Mt. Juliet’s head coach is 444-162 including six trips to the AAA State Tournament in 2003 and 2008-2012. His teams won the District 9-AAA tournament 7 times in a row from 2006-2012 as well as in 2016. More than 80 of Purvis’s players have gone on to sign college scholarships. Coach Purvis played at Cumberland University and was an assistant coach there for three years as well.

Coach Purvis teaches World History & Geography and has previously coached girls and boys basketball at MJHS. He and his wife Amber have two children: Rylan and Presley.


Assistant Coach: Rob Brown

Coach Brown is in his second stint as an assistant at Mt. Juliet. He was an assistant in 2012 when Mt. Juliet set a school record for wins with 38. He rejoined the staff in 2014 and this year will be the pitching coach. Prior to coming to MJHS, Coach Brown was an assistant coach at McGavock High School and the head coach for two seasons. He played baseball at Aguinas Junior College and Tennessee Tech.

Coach Brown teaches PE at Mt. Juliet Middle School. He and his wife Teresa have three children: Tyler, Aaron, and Keeton. Aaron is a senior on this year’s team.

Assistant Coach: Ryan Hill

Coach Hill is in his 9th season as an assistant coach at Mt. Juliet. He was a JV assistant in 2009, JV head coach from 2010-2012, and varsity assistant from 2012-present. He works primarily with the hitters, catchers, and infielders. Coach Hill received a baseball scholarship to Belmont but was unable to play due to an eye injury.

Coach Hill teaches Economics and Personal Finance at Mt. Juliet High School and has previously coached girls basketball and girls soccer. He is married to Janie who is a math teacher at MJHS.

Assistant Coach: Josh Marlowe

Coach Marlowe is in his 7th season as an assistant coach at Mt. Juliet. He was a JV assistant from 2010-2013 and a varsity assistant from 2015-present. Coach Marlowe works with the infielders and is the Director of Baseball Operations at MJHS.

Coach Marlowe teaches ACT Prep and AP U.S. History at Mt. Juliet High School. He is currently an assistant boys basketball coach at Mt. Juliet Middle School and previously coached football at Mt. Juliet Middle School. Coach Marlowe recently got engaged and will be getting married to his fiance, Meg, in 2017.

JV Coach: Taylor Wilson

Coach Wilson is in his 3rd season as an assistant at MJHS. This year he will be helping out with both JV teams. During the last two seasons he was the JV Head Coach. Prior to coaching, he played two years at Dyersburg State Community College and two years at Williams Baptist Bible College in Arkansas.

Coach Wilson teaches Special Education at Mt. Juliet Middle School. He recently married his wife Julee who is also a teacher.

JV Coach: Zach Tompkins

Coach Tompkins is in his first year as a coach at MJHS. This year he will be coaching one of the two JV teams. Coach Tompkins graduated from MJHS in 2012 and was the starting catcher during his junior and senior seasons. After high school he played two years at Jackson State Community College and two years at Trevecca Nazarene University.

Coach Tompkins works in the Special Education Department at Mt. Juliet Middle School.


Merritt

JV Coach: Mack Merritt

Coach Merritt is in his first year as a coach at MJHS. This year he will coaching one of the two JV teams. Coach Merritt played at McGavock under Coach Rob Brown. He is also an assistant football coach at Mt. Juliet Middle School.

Coach Merritt teaches PE at Mt. Juliet Middle School.
